Sleepy from Seattle

My non-stop trip to Seattle was tiring.  Now that I am home, I realize just how sleepy I really am.  Before I go to sleep, here's an update about my wonderful trip.

Thursday I spent the day with my friend Katie and her sister.  We got our hair done and went to a nice lunch then hung out with the rest of her family in the evening.

Early Friday morning we took Katie to the airport to leave and I was on my own, headed to downtown Seattle.  My first task of the day was to find a hotel to stay in.  I had planned on staying in a hostel near Pike Place Market, but they were overbooked and didn't have any extra beds.  I went searching for a reasonably priced, and decent place to spend the night.

After about an hour and a half of searching and walking the city, I found a place to stay.  They let me check in early which was an added bonus.  Then I was off to do some more exploring.

Friday I went to the Seattle Aquarium.  It was wonderful.  Just as good as Monterrey Bay Aquarium, but in a different way.  I watched two presentations given by divers in the huge tanks swimming with fish of local breeds.  The divers were informative and entertaining.  The Seattle Aquarium has seals, sea otters, and water fowl too!  I enjoyed watching these animals swim around and play with each other.

After the aquarium I walked around down by the piers then headed to Pikes Place Market.  Pikes Place was wonderful - crowded, but wonderful.  It was filled with vendors selling fresh fish, fruit and veggies, jewelry and other various arts and crafts.  I bought some pears for a light snack.

There are also shops and eateries in the Pikes Place area.  I ate some Russian food and went to the first ever Starbucks.  Then I walked into a nearby alley to enjoy some gum art.  There is a section of the alley famous for its ever changing mural, made out of gum, on the side of a brick building.  Tourists and locals add their own DNA to the wall by contributing their "ABC" gum to the wall.  Some people are very creative with their gum and create shapes or spell words.  It is a disgusting piece of art, but I still enjoyed viewing it!

After Pikes Place I went on a tour of Underground Seattle.  The tour took us below existing buildings to where the entrances used to be, before the city was raised to improve building conditions and plumbing.  This tour was amazing.  I'm so glad I went because it was fascinating seeing the hidden city below the streets I was walking on.

Today I went to an sculpture garden created by the Seattle Art Museum.  It was so rainy today I feel I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have.  The rest of the day I walked around, mostly down by the piers and enjoyed my last few hours in Seattle.  I walked to the Space Needle but didn't go to the top because of the weather.  Maybe next time I go I will make it up to the observation deck.

Spring Break in Seattle was splendid.  I very much enjoyed the city and will definitely return to see it again.  Who knows, maybe I will even live there at some point in my life.  My love for coffee, Frasier, and sappy movies with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan may cause me to become a Seattle-ite someday.
