Playing in Sunny California
This weekend was beautiful! No rain, which is a nice change.
Shan and I enjoyed the weather by going to the farmers market in Sunnyvale on Saturday morning. We had never been before and were pleasantly surprised to see 2 full blocks of downtown closed for the event. The farmers market in Sunnyvale is on Saturdays, year round, rain or shine.
Vendors sell crafts, locally grown produce, plants, restaurant food, and many other things. Shan bought some butternut squash, peppers, onion, and a fruit which looked like a large melon but was actually a gianormous citrus fruit. I bought some tangelos, red potatoes, honey and bread.
Many people come out to the farmers market - some bring their dogs, others bring their babies, and some people go there to meet their farmers market buddies. It's fun to people watch at the farmers market.
Shan and I also gopher-watched at the farmers market on Saturday. A smart gopher created a downtown home in some landscaping right by the street. His property must be worth a lot, considering the benefits of living where food is delivered for free every Saturday. Several children were crowded around the gopher's hole as it put on a show for them, popping in and out of the hole, amusing them with a game of peek-a-boo. They rewarded him with a fresh brussel sprout which made him retreat to his hole for quite a while.
This was a great weekend spent enjoying the weather. We went on a walk, played frisbee in the park, and also attempted to play basketball. The basketball attempt was amusing, but we weren't very successful. I was playing in flip-flops and our basketball was flat. Recalling my childhood days of playing in the driveway, I ended up teaching Shan how to play HORSE. All that was missing from this carefree and childlike weekend of playing was sidewalk chalk, but... there's always next weekend! =)
Do something childish this week. Remember how to play, something we forget how to do as we age.
