Traveling Tale
Yesterday was my big move to California. My plane left Wichita at 3:00pm and I was scheduled to be in San Francisco at 7:37pm after my layover in Denver. The first leg of the trip went well, I slept most of the time and a lovely old gentleman sat next to me. He didn't talk much because he couldn't hear much.
When I got to Denver I took my time trekking across the airport to my gate. I had a 2 hour layover so I stopped in a few shops and read. In the lobby I sat next to a woman who was reading. Then, after about 15 minutes of sitting next to her, she pulls out a long hair chihuahua named Princess. Princess was very helpful in making that long layover go by quicker.
At the gate next to my flight there was a flight scheduled to go to San Jose, California. San Jose is much closer to Sunnyvale than San Francisco is so I went to talk to a counter clerk to see if changing flights was possible. She sent me on a stroll to the Frontier info counter. There the helpful employee told me that in order to change flights I would have to buy a new one-way ticket to San Jose... I said "No Thank You!"
Back at the gate, I was eating some rice and staring at a screaming child. Another counter clerk made an announcement asking for volunteers from my San Francisco flight to stay back and take the 9:00 flight because of overbooking. The reward was a $200 travel voucher and a free dinner. I continued eating my rice and mentioned how tempting that was to my neighbor and Princess. 5 minutes later, full of rice, I decide to go talk to the clerk and find out what time the 9:00pm flight will land.
The counter clerk is checking her computer and answering my questions at the same time. Airport computers must be the most complicated breed of the entire species because a simple search can take up to 20 minutes! The clerk said that if I hurry I could just jump on the flight to San Jose. YES YES YES! That is exactly what I was wanting to do in the first place. The other clerk ran down to the planes and personally transferred my luggage from the San Fran flight to the San Jose one and I got on the plane with just a few minutes to spare.
I got on the plane that I wanted to be on, in a town closer to where Shan lives, my luggage arrived in perfect condition, and I ended up getting a $100 travel voucher to use with Frontier Airlines, my new favorite airline. The Universe was working for me yesterday!
I'm here safe and sound now, excited and nervous at the same time. Last night I went to Target to get some shampoo and saw, for the first time in my life, shopping cart escalators! I have included a picture below. Today I think I will further work on my search for an internship. But first, breakfast!
