Golden Gate Party, First Day of School, Interview, and This Weekend

WOW! This week has been very very busy.

School started on Wednesday. I am taking 4 classes and 1 lab. My classes are all great and I like all of my proffessors. My favorite class so far is my "Sociology of Gender" class, but I only get to go to it once a week because it is held on Thursday nights. I almost didn't take it because it is a night class, I'm really glad that I am taking it though.

Tuesday, the day before school began, a group of new friends went to San Francisco to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. After walking across (well halfway at least) the bridge we went to Union Square to eat. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory on top of the Macy's store. The view from our table was amazing! I really like the other NSE people that I have met here. We have officially become friends! To prove this we already have an event page on facebook, pictures of each other posted on there, and inside jokes scattered on some of our walls or in our status boxes. Tonight we are all going to dinner to celebrate Lisa's birthday. Shan may come too so they can all meet!

Thursday I had a meeting set up with the career services department of the University. I wanted to get more information about co-ops and internships. In the morning, before my meeting, I got a call from the American Red Cross to come in and interview from a marketing internship they have available. I applied for this position a week and a half ago and was ecstatic to get a call back! I set the interview up for Friday and began to prepare.

My meeting with the career services department went really well. The advisor I saw was great! Within the first 15 minutes of the meeting I felt like he was invested in me and my future. He helped me get information about internships and gave me some great resources for interviews. He even looked at my resume and made some suggestions. After the meeting I got an e-mail from him wishing me luck one more time before my interview and asking that I let him know how it went. I am really impressed with the career services at Cal State East Bay!

Friday was my interview! I was so excited for it because I really, really, really want this job. It is perfect for me! In researching the Red Cross I became more and more in love with the organization. The opportunities working for this would present are immense! The interview went really well, the marketing director is young and also from the mid-west. The conversation flowed and I had good responses when questioned. After the interview I had to take a writing test, which was just to provide them with another writing sample. I think I did well on that too! I have a good feeling about this position - hopefully I will be called in for a second interview. I should hear something early this week.

Yesterday I spent time with Shan. We wanted to go to the re-opening on the California Science Institute in San Francisco, but there was no parking within a 5 mile radius of the building. It was packed so we decided to change our plans and do something else. We went to Union Square and shopped around a bit. We saw at least 3 different street vendors selling Obama buttons - thats something I would not see in Kansas. We bought 2... one for each of us. After dinner we returned to South Bay and went to see "Burn After Reading," the new Cohen brothers movie. It was superb!

This was a fabulous first week of school!
